Kensington Market Fire

At 01:39 this morning the towns fire departments were dispatched to a reported fire alarm at Kensington Market, 1014 Farmington Avenue.
Upon arrival Car 31 discovered a smoke condition at the rear of the building and inside the first floor. 31 upgraded the call to a structure fire and called for a second alarm bringing in additional mutual aid units from surrounding towns.
Fire crews made entry and found the seat of the fire within a wall at the rear of the building. Personnel operated on scene for two and a half hours bringing the fire under control and attempting to mitigate further damage to the establishment.
One resident was evacuated from a second floor apartment and there were no reported injuries.
Kensington Market is located within a historic building in the center of town. The establishment sustained moderate damage to the interior and rear of the building. Previously Victory Market the establishment has been a mainstay in community for numerous generations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and is believed to have started near a stove. The establishment is expected to remain closed while cleanup and repairs are being completed.
