At 16:41 the fire department was dispatched to Ragged Mountain for the report of a male hiker in their 30's with shortness of breath and unable to walk.
A fire department crew hiked for 10 minutes and made contact where it was determined the individual was suffering a diabetic emergency.
The individual was briefly assesed, treated, loaded to a utility vehicle, and transported to the trail head where he was transferred an to awaiting ambulance. He was transported to an area hospital for further care.
The individual was hiking in the park with his girlfriend when the incident occurred.
Another couple hiking the area stopped to assist the party and phoned 911. One of the individuals stayed with the victim and girlfriend while her husband led emergency personnel to their location. The Berlin fire service would like to thank that party for their assistance.
