At 10:46 a.m. the Town of Berlin Fire Departments were dispatched to the area of Norton Lane for a collision that occurred between an ATV and commuter train. Upon arrival of fire units the ATV was actively on fire with fire effecting the front exterior area of one train car. Due to the location of the incident the fire was initially extinguished by FD personnel utilizing extinguishers while a hose line was extended to the site. The train was occupied at the time of the collision and passengers and crew have since been transferred to another train that was brought to site. No injuries were reported from civilians or first responders. A unified response from Berlin Fire Departments, Berlin Police, Hunters Ambulance Service, Amtrak Police, and CT DOT/CT Rail was established and greatly attributed to the successful mitigation of the incident.
